FALL 2009 Health Screenings:

Getting regular check ups, preventive screening tests and immunizations are among the most important things you can do for yourself. They can help ensure that common, serious diseases and conditions are detected and treated.

SCREENING DATES:

More dates to come in 2010.

IMPORTANT: YOU NEED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT THIS YEAR.

PLEASE CALL: Kim Ruliffson at: 777-0210 or e-mail: kimberlyruliffson@mail.und.nodak.edu with your name, e-mail and phone number and appointment request (they are provided every 15 minutes starting at 7am).

IMPORTANT: FASTING (not eating) is required for the lab work to be accurate (at least 12 hours before test) this also includes not drinking alcohol. You can drink water. Do not stop taking your medication(s).

There will be free breakfast after your screening is completed.

The Cholestech LDX machine delivers the ability to measure a complete lipid profile plus glucose and it does it all in 7 minutes per test.

Preventative Screenings and BCBS

For this calendar year: NDBCBS will cover the following at 100%:

  • Immunizations

  • 1 yearly physical exam

  • Mammograms:
1 time for females between the ages of 35-39, and every year starting at age 40. BCBS may cover more often with family history of breast cancer.

  • Pap Smears:
1 time per year for females.

  • PSAs (Prostate-Specific Antigen test):
Yearly for white males at age 50; yearly for black males starting at 40 years; yearly for males with a family of prostate cancer starting at 40 years old (ND state legislature mandates this in the policy).

  • FOBT (fecal occult blood testing)
For males and females ages 50 and over.

Additionally, this calendar year, BCBS is offering a $200 preventative screening amount that can be used for other testing including cholesterol (costs are subject to the health clinic's pricing), blood glucose, a colonoscopy, etc.

Preventive Screenings

Preventive screenings and tests save lives. Unfortunately, many Americans do not routinely follow some basic health screening recommendations. Routine screenings can identify a previously undiagnosed condition or risk of condition. This allows physicians to intervene early with treatments and therapies to control the condition or inform the individual of lifestyle changes that can be taken to improve health outcomes and costs.

If you would like to know more about what screenings are right for you, download the appropriate pdf for adults or children. Only your primary healthcare provider would know what screenings are best for you.
